Disney Channel’s Friday treat for film fans continues throughout May with great entertainment to celebrate the start of each weekend. There’s a marvellous movie every Friday at 17:00, repeated on Saturday at 10:40. The fun starts with Zombies on Friday 7 th May, followed by its sequel Zombies 2 (Friday 14 th May), How to Build a Better Boy (Friday 21 st May) and Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure (Friday 28 th May), all at 17:00.

Zombies (Friday 7 th May) is a music and dance filled story set in Seabrook, 50 years after a zombie apocalypse. When zombies are finally allowed to enrol in Seabrook High School, the charismatic zombie Zed, who wants to play football, meets Addison, who dreams of being a cheerleader. Addison and Zed work together to show Seabrook what they can achieve when they embrace their differences.

Viewers can see these great Disney movies on Fridays throughout May 2021 at 17:00, repeated on the following Saturday at 10:40, on Disney Channel.

Super sleuth Mira’s back on the trail, as premiere episodes of Mira Royal Detective air on weekdays from Monday 10 th to Friday 14 th May at 14:30.

As newly appointed royal detective to the Indian-inspired land of Jalpur, the brave and resourceful Mira travels throughout the kingdom helping royals and townspeople alike. With the help of her friend, Prince Neel, her cousin, Priya, and her mongoose sidekicks, Mikku and Chikku, Mira uses her unique lens to investigate each case that comes her way. In the first of these episodes, Mystery at the Marketplace/ Mystery in the Sand Dunes (Monday 10 th May at 14:30) Mira tracks down the spice merchant who has an essential ingredient for Meena’s ladoos. Then, while testing Neel’s new vehicle, a sandstorm causes the vehicle to become lost. In season three Elena’s epic journey continues as she strives to protect her kingdom from a family of wicked wizards while learning how to control her new magic powers. In this premiere episode, entitled The Family Treasure (Sunday 16 th May at 12:00), Elena and Isabel help two feuding brothers find a valuable treasure hidden by their mother. This premiere episode of Elena of Avalor airs on Sunday 16 th May at 12:00 on Disney Junior.

Make Mothers Day Marvellous with GLAD!

Be Marvellous this Mother’s Day by showing your Mom how much you appreciate her by putting special touches on everything you do. Whether you and/or the kids plan on making cards and gifts; baking a special treat or preparing a meal, GLAD is the perfect companion.

Below is a simply and easy recipe you can use, and add in your own personal creative touch.

Almond and Raspberry White Chocolate Bark

Serves 4
EASY
30 mins

Ingredients

320g white chocolate
100g roasted and salted almonds, chopped
Handful raspberries
Pinch salt flakes
Zest of 1 orange

How to do it

Break your white chocolate into a glass bowl and melt over a pot of simmering water, stirring occasionally until smooth.
Line a tray or board with Glad Bake & Cooking Paper (use a little melted chocolate on each corner of the paper to secure it).
Spread the melted chocolate over the bake paper, scatter over the chopped almonds, raspberries, pinch of salt and grate over the zest of 1 orange.
Refrigerate for about 30 minutes, before breaking into shards.
Serve.

My littlest human constantly yells at me to “go away mommy”, “no mommy”, “don’t look at me mommy” and the very next second I get hugs and kisses. Some days I literally just walk from the kitchen to the couch past her and she yells at me. Should I be worried?

Sometimes I don’t know what is worse, husband letting the kids have their way all the time to keep the kids happy or the neighbours thinking they can knock on my door telling me my kids are too noisy. (I don’t live in an old age home.) It’s a vicious cycle, by doing this my husband is reinforcing the idea with the kids that they can do what they want, when they want because we will jump when they yell at us just so we can keep them quiet so as not to have knocks on the front door. The more I say f-it i don’t give 2 peters about the neighbours, the more hubby gives a tweet.

I don’t think I am the perfect parent, but I don’t want to raise a bunch of brats…

Fujifilm’s new entry-level Instax Mini 40 goes for old-school cool

Fujifilm is proud to introduce the Instax Mini 40 instant camera, the new entry-level camera in the ever-growing Instax line-up. The Mini 40 embraces the old-school look-and-feel of film cameras thanks to its all-black leatherette body combined with a classic silver frame.

Despite its retro looks, the Mini 40 incorporates the latest technology, as found on Instax’s Mini 11 and Square SQ1 instant cameras released last year.

No worries with Automatic Exposure

With the ‘Automatic Exposure’ function, for example, the Mini 40 automatically optimises the shutter speed, flash output and other settings according to the overall shooting conditions. This allows for balanced prints that are correctly exposed in both bright outdoor and low-light indoor environments.

Users can also activate the ‘Selfie mode’ for taking selfies and close-up shots. The mode is initiated by pulling out the front edge of the camera’s lens after powering it on, making sure that any image taken from close up (30 cm – 50 cm) is in focus.

The Mini 40 is powered by two AA-batteries (included), and with a weight of only 330g (without batteries, strap and film) the camera is extremely portable. As an additional accessory and to compliment the camera’s style, Instax is releasing a stylish black camera case with stitching detail and a shoulder strap. Safely tucked into the case, the Mini 40 is ready for any picnic, party or road trip.

Ready for Contact

As can be gathered from the name, the Mini 40 uses Fujifilm’s Mini film, which provides a photo picture size of 62 x 46mm. The film packs are easy to load, with the camera able to print a beautiful photo in about 90 seconds.

Part of the fun of the Instax range is the wide variety of film types available for prints. Alongside the Mini 40, Fujifilm is introducing a new Mini-format film named “Contact Sheet”. The stylised black border design imitates a contact sheet, traditionally developed by film photographers in photographic dark rooms. The Contact Sheet film pack contains ten prints and can be used in all Instax Mini cameras.

Price and availability

Instax fans need not wait long, since the Fujifilm Instax Mini 40 instant camera will be available in South Africa on 21 April 2021, set to retail for R1 399 incl. VAT. Photographers looking for the Contact Sheet film pack can find it in stores or online on the same day, selling for a recommended R169 incl. VAT.
