March was hectic. I celebrated 22 days of birthday—because why not? My birthday kicks off on 1 March and runs until the actual day. I treated myself a bit, got the kids to say “Happy Birthday” each day, went on a cruise, and made it to Loftus.
The MSC 5-day cruise video still needs editing, but here’s the short version. We booked the cheapest cabin with a window—just enough space for the four of us (as we only sleep in the room). The kids slept on beds attached to the walls, which worked fine. They loved the window, sitting on the shelf and watching the ocean. Entertainment was solid, except for the stand-up comedian (not my thing, so not his fault). Food was decent—nothing fancy, but you can’t expect five-star dining when feeding over a thousand people at once. The buffet was handy for snacks, but queuing with kids was a nightmare. Some people were so desperate to get their over-filled helping that they had no problem pushing kids out of the way. Also, standing in line with strangers practically leaning on me? Not a fan. The same chaos happened when disembarking at Portuguese Island—one woman tried to shove past my kids on the stairs. She got an earful.
The Blue Bulls vs. Leinster game at Loftus was great. A stadium full of people loudly disagreeing with the ref? Quality entertainment. The kids had a blast.
Oh, and my sister and I got another ear piercing. Almost overpaid at a popular jewellery shop (R1,000 for two persons), but she caught the total just in time. Quick detour to Dischem, and we got it done for just over R500. Much better. Four piercings on each ear feels no different than 3.
