I know it sounds selfish, but I don’t want my BFF to do a reverse Great Trek on me. Cape Town is far and I’ve been there a few times – it’s not as special as a trip to the Kruger or standing on the mountains of Magoebaskloof. Here are 5 reasons why you will miss Jozi:
“Like love, breakfast is best when made at home.” – Gina Barreca
The most obvious reason is, me. We have been BFFs for 11 years and well, I don’t really go to Cape Town as flights are expensive, I can’t take my cats and my life has a triangle with Jozi, Salt Rock and somewhere in the mountains near Haenertsburg.
In Jozi you know what to expect with cold winters, warm summers and late afternoon showers. In Cape Town… there is that irritating wind that can blow for days.
In Jozi you are close to the family – literally – with parents just an hour away and extended family just one door down in KZN.
It’s a culture thing… Slow Town may be beautiful, but everything seems to happen so slow down that side – think KZN on slow-slo-mo. I know you like wine, but isn’t it best shared from a hip flask than all hoity-toity?
And lastly, those waters are cold. Unless you are in a full-body wetsuit you can kiss a long swim in the sea goodbye. Plus in Jozi you can hop on over to Sun City or trek to KZN for a nice warm swim.
…if you do go, my BFF, just remember that Jozi will always be here with open arms.
