No jokes here, working with liquid cheeks (or cheek stain) like Benefit’s Posie Tint isn’t as easy as using powders – until you have learnt the trick. Once you know how much cheek stain to use you will be a pro.

Benefit Cosmetics - Posie Tint cheek stain and lip balm
Here is my blushed look created with Benefit’s Posie Tint cheek stain & lip balm. Please don’t look at my hair, it was the end of the day and I couldn’t care 🙂

Let me get down to what you are here for – HOW TO APPLY POSIE TINT CHEEK STAIN.

There are 3 ways to apply a cheek stain:

  • under your liquid foundation (more natural)
  • over your liquid foundation
  • over your liquid and powder foundation (not recommended)

If you decide on a more natural blush (like me), apply the Posie Tint first. Dab 2 dots of Posie Tint on your finger and dab onto your cheek to create your blush. (You can also use a brush to apply the Posie Tint, but I found that my blush looks better when applied with my fingers.) Dab and blend the tint onto the apple of your cheek and work the colour slowly until you are happy. Then apply your liquid foundation and blend over your Posie Tint cheeks.

Here is the biggest secret about applying Posie Tint cheek stain – use very little. When I say DAB 2 DOTS ON YOUR FINGER, I mean it.

If you decide you need more blush, build layers with your cheek stain. Take your time applying your cheek stain, you don’t want to end up having to remove it all and start again.

I try to create my Posie Tint blush exactly where my natural blush occurs, on the apple of my cheek and halfway up my cheekbone.

I found this cute diagram on the Benefit Cosmetics website that shows you their 3 stroke technique.

If you want to create the perfect look with rosy lips, you can use your Posie Tint cheek stain (in a pinch) on your lips. I would however recommend you get the Posie Tint cheek stain and hydrating lip balm to create the perfect blush.

Just a quick note – I use no products on my eyebrows as it freaks me out if they are darker. I have had many make-up artists try and “make my eyes pop with even more brow” but it just doesn’t suit me.

I was lucky enough to score an invite to a Benefit Make-up Party (in Clearwater) with Mascara & Mimosas at Red Square.

Benefit Cosmetics Counter-1Since Benefit Cosmetics relaunched in SA I’ve been umming and aahing about trying it. I like my make-up, but always complain about the price…just to buy it again when I run out. Plus these last 2 years I felt that any change might just be too much for me to handle.

At the Benefit Make-up Party I got to try the make-up for free (and got a little goodie bag with extra samples to try at home). The biggest surprise was the GIMME BROW. Now if you have ever seen a photo of me you will know that I barely have eyebrows and that I don’t fill it in (because I secretly like them that way). Anyway, they gave me brows. Looking in the mirror, those brows had me scared – it is not normal to have such ample browage when you have never had any. So if you need a little extra brow – get Benefit GIMME BROW.

I usually spend max 10 minutes on make-up for work, because I would rather sleep in the extra 10 minutes that doesn’t really make a difference. My make-up consists of foundation, Kajal Kohl eyeliner, something on the lids, big lashes and lipgloss. I skip using primer because my skin is really even (mostly) and I can live with my freckles. However at the Benefit Make-up Party they added a little POREfessional – and it makes a HUGE difference. It actually gives you that airbrushed look without having to actually do photo editing. Not joking.

The other product that they used on me, that I actually bought afterwards, was the Benefit POSIE TINT (for lips and cheeks). I have never used a tint on my cheeks – but plenty on my lips – so this was something new. In case you don’t know how to apply, just take your foundation blush and blend onto those cheeks. It looked like a healthy blush on my cheeks and like a delicious strawberry colour on my lips.

I know you want to know what was in goodie bag, so here it is:

  • Benefit The POREfessional primer
  • Benefit Air Patrol BB Cream Eyelid Primer
  • Benefit They’re Real Beyond Mascara
  • Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion

Benefit Cosmetics Counter-1If you walk around and you spot a make-up counter in these vintage colours, stop, look and try. The counters stand out from other make-up brands as they use soft vintage pastel colours and images. So cute.

I know that you are worrying about what things may cost, so here is the truth. It is more expensive than you run of the mill cheap cosmetics from a drugstore, but much better priced than your top-end cosmetics.

Would I buy this? I am actually seriously considering changing brands – that is how much I loved my experience with Benefit Cosmetics. I am planning to finish my current cosmetics (just opened) and then try Benefit Cosmetics for a time.

As I’ve mentioned I have already bought the Benefit POSIE TINT & BALM. It came in a box with another tint set that my bestie wanted, so we only paid R325 for a set of 4 items. Making it R162.50 for the Benefit Posie Tint & Balm. My “expensometer” tells me that my purchase wasn’t that expensive.
