It’s almost not real, you know, that I have my own kids. I still have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming.

Lexa is in pre-school and probably smarter than most kids – and I’m not exaggerating, that kid is a genius. She is quite bossy, can solve any problem within minutes and have cracked the code to open all baby proof locks. She isn’t the nicest human after a nap, but when she is in a good mood… it’s sunshine and rainbows rolled in unicorn poop.

Lily is now just over the 7 month mark and crawls like a pro. She is definitely also a cat person as she loves grabbing onto my cat, Sandton. When her big sister holds her she can’t help but smile, she loves her sister so much.

When I look at all the new products that have hit the shelves since Lexa and Lily was born I feel a little pang of jealousy that I didn’t have that – not that we’re not still on bottles and diapers!

One of the most beautiful limited edition ranges that have hit the shelves is definitely the Chicco Fantastic Love range. When we opened the box Lexa just went wowowowow! Her poor little sister barely had time to chomp down on the teether before it was stolen right from her little mouth.

This is the perfect gift for a baby shower – even if you buy just one item from this range it’ll still be a pretty awesome gift.

Product range includes:

  • Wellbeing Feeding Bottles x 3 – 150, 250 and 330ml.  In age groups with appropriate flow silicone teats.
  • Physio Soft newborn pacifier – comes in limited edition heart-shaped box with satin ribbon. Orthodontic, silicone soother that’s so soft baby can sleep on their side or face and not get hurt.
  • Pacifier holder – Unicorn designed clip-on pacifier holder for dummy hygiene.
  • Pony teether – with different edges and textures to soothe gums.
  • Pacifier clip – Unicorn design on these cute pacifier clips to conveniently connect to clothing and never drop a dummy again.

All products are merchandised together in store for easy reference.  The Fantastic Love range is perfect for baby showers, baby gifting or just for that mom who wants to spoil their little one.

All products retail at R129 and are available at selected Pick ‘n Pay stores, Babies R Us, Kids Emporium, www.loot.co.za Loot and www.takealot.com.

The teether

Best thing since sliced bread! Love, love, love this teether/rattle/toy. It’s so easy to hold for baby plus the little horsey is just the cutest thing.

The bottles

After explaining to Lexa that the little teether is for Swieswie (little sister) she claimed the bottles for herself. We still give her formula for all those extra vitamins and minerals, so it’s a good thing.

The pacifier

Lexa almost annexed the pacifier for her dolls until I showed her it is way too big for that. Lily also never took to dummies so sometime soon some lucky mom is going to to get a pacifier, pacifier clip and pacifier holder from us.

#gift

I have an awesome surprise for you in in this post, so keep on reading to the end!

I received this awesome box from Chicco last week and did I strike it lucky with bottles! Check out the Facebook LIVE reveal of what’s in the box here.

Did you know that Chicco has been around for 60 years? They constantly observe children, have dialogues with parents and collaborate with the medical world to censure their products bring only joy in the lives of little ones.

Breast feeding

Look, I am never going to dwell on breast pumps and breastfeeding (you can read here why) but I will mention some of Chicco’s products to help you on your way.

  • Naturally electric breast pump
  • Natural feeling manual breast pump
  • Chicco breast milk container
The airtight seal helps to preserve breastmilk – but you can also use it to store milk powder in for those on the go days.
  • Soothing thermogel pads
  • Antibacterial breast protection pads
  • Silicone nipple shields – please don’t ask me to explain this one… ever.

Bottle feeding

Now I can talk about stuff I know… We use a bottle similar in shape but with the teat in the middle (and they work great), but after trying the Chicco Natural Feeling Bottle the other night on little miss Lily at bed time I was impressed. She took to the bottle like it was nobody’s business, she didn’t have any more wind than usual and she looked more comfortable. I’ll still use it a few more times to test of course!

Disclaimer: It is up to you to decide between bottle and breastfeeding. However follow the instructions provided to keep bottles sterilized.

Chicco baby bottles

  • These bottles are made in Italy
  • 0% BPA
  • Clinically tested
  • 96% of babies accepted the bottle

Chicco offers both the inclined and regular teats to fit on the bottles, obviously with different flow rates. More excitingly they have glass bottles as well – which of course makes them recyclable and more hygienic. We have one of the glass bottles to try out, but I am petrified of Lexa using her throw arm…

Personally we don’t use bottle warmers as we keep the filtered water in bottles for the day/night and make more bottles as we see them running out, but Chicco does offer a bottle warmer that will fit their bottles.

I liked the looked of the Chicco sterilizer – especially the microwaveable one for travel. The big electronic one… yeah, it might have been a contender for us.

Dummies and more

Dummies, hate it or love it… sometime the only thing that will get baby to settle is to stick one in the pie-hole, seriously. We got Chicco dummies in some of the hospital bags when Lily was born and we still use them. I prefer a transparent dummy, but when my parents are around it is better to have a bright colour so they can find it (just saying).

Chico has a fantastic selection of dummies, dummy clips, teethers, teether bibs and it is always worth shopping around and looking at what is new in the shelves.

A cuddly bear, projector, music maker and nightlight all in one.

The Chicco First Dreams Baby Bear night light is probably one of our (my and Lexa’s) favourite items ever. It is the perfect little bear for her to cuddle with and even I love watching the stars against the ceiling with her.

Chicco First Dreams Baby Bear Night Light

Way back when we bought Lexa a nightlight, a turtle. She never paid any interest in it even if the turtle made the most beautiful starry display – all because she couldn’t hug a soft body. This Chicco Bear… now that piqued her interest.

What I like about the Chicco Baby Bear night light:

  1. The plush bear is super soft
  2. The starry display that changes colour
  3. Can wash it once the electronic box is removed
  4. Can switch the sound on or off
  5. Simple to use for kids

We’ve had the bear for over a month now and the bear is still going with no stitching coming loose, music and lights still working – and that is 2 washes later!

What I didn’t like about the Chicco Baby Bear night light:

  1. I struggled to get the electronic box back in place perfectly again so the button aligns to the hole. We just added an extra piece of fabric to push it in place and it’s good to go.

Information

  1. The bears are available in pink and blue and retails on Takealot for R599.
  2. The dimensions of the bear are 20.3 x 25 x 31 cm.
  3. It weighs 1.8kg!
  4. 30 minutes of melodies in the genres of classical, jazz, new age and nature sounds.
  5. Star projection with automatic colour change.

Note: We received the Chicco First Dreams Baby Bear to test and review. However the review is unpaid and my own opinion.

If you’ve stepped out into any toy store recently you would’ve noticed a “larger than normal” presence of Mickey Mouse (and Minnie) toys. This is due to the big birthday coming up on 18 November – and here you were thinking it was for Xmas.

Since I have a baby just days away I thought I’d start with all the wonderful Disney Baby things you can get – thanks to Prima Baby.

The Disney Baby ring rattle is the cutest little thing, perfect for little hands to grab onto. So colourful and perfect for those precious early play times.

I did say I’m going all out baby for this post… Wouldn’t you want a Mickey Comforter? I can see many fun play time hours on this!

I do have bottles from number 1, but a girl can look – can’t she?

And of course you can also get a milk powder dispenser with Minnie or Mickey on it.

DISNEY BABY MICKEY MILK POWDER DISPENSER

Now we are getting to the part where baby is getting a little older with itchy gums and little hands that want to explore and touch everything – and this Disney Baby Mickey Mouse teether activity toy is just what baby will want.

It’s not all about the plushies… anything with wheels was always a winner for Lexa and I’m hoping little miss Lily will also enjoy a bit of vroom-vroom. Can I have this for my desk – pretty please!

DISNEY BABY MICKEY RACING KART

One of the very first things Lexa mastered was to sort shapes – and that was before she was 1! Her shape sorter wasn’t this fancy, but you never know what may arrive from all the aunts and uncles!

DISNEY BABY MICKEY AND FRIENDS SHAPE SORTER

You can never have too many rattles! Lexa had a few and inevitable they all ended up being missing for a few days. Plus the little car is a soft teether. (2-in-1 mum!)

DISNEY BABY MICKEY KEY RATTLE
DISNEY BABY MICKEY KEY RATTLE

I have a thing for cameras so this list would not be complete without me sneaking in a cute camera!

There are so many toys I would like to include on this list, but you will be reading all day if I did! However, I can tell you that toys aren’t the only things you can get from Disney Baby either…

Some people say don’t give a dummy and others swear by it. For me personally I don’t see why a baby can’t use a dummy when they need it in the early years. This Disney baby natural pacifier is only suitable for 6+ months, but it is just too sweet not to include on the list.

When you have a pacifier, you need a pacifier case – because there is nothing worse than thinking of all the germs floating in the air with a new baby.

Then, when baby is older you will need plates, spoons and other utensils!

So here we go, the S-bottle from Difrax… Lexa has been testing a Difrax S-bottle out for almost 2 weeks and it has now become her bottle she prefers when having cartoon or reading time.

Here is Lexa, after I chased her all over the livingroom, with her pink Difrax S-bottle. She is a little runner and sometimes when the camera comes out she pulls funny-bugger moves on me.

I am also going to be packing it for our upcoming trip to Reunion Island – for the plane. It will be Lexa’s first time in the sky and I want to make sure that she is calm and comfortable. Plus who knows what the pressure in the plane might do to her normal bottles. I am actually also that confident that the anti-colic valve (read about it below) on this awesome bottle might make the difference that will spare the rest of the passengers’ ears.

This bottle is quite unique and has won several awards – plus it is the number 1 bottle in the Netherlands – so you know there must be something special about it.

Difrax S-bottle Awards - Mommy Blogger Johannesburg, South Africa

Anti-colic

This is a biggie… The unique S-bottle reduces the risk of colic and allows baby to drink easily and comfortably. The valve system ensures a constant flow of air from the bottom of the S-bottle, without causing a vacuum. The air enters and stays in the bottom of the S-bottle and does not mix with the milk. This reduces the risk of colic, burping and vomiting.

Difrax-S-bottle - South African Mommy Blogger

It’s like the MacGyver of bottles

  • The bottle cap of the Difrax S-bottle is a measuring cup – 30ml and 50ml.
  • The bottle teats are BPA-free, odourless, tasteless with no risk of latex allergies. A teat for each phase of development is also available.
  • The body is ergonomic. Which means no vertical bottle between you and baby, allowing for more eye contact.
  • The anti-colic valve provides a constant, regular flow of milk and prevents stomach and intestinal cramps, reflux, burping and colic.
  • The bottom is detachable, easy to fill with formula milk or cubes of frozen milk.
  • The innovative S-bottle warmer heats baby milk to the ideal breastfeeding temperature of 37°C within 3 minutes.

Difrax S-bottle and warmer - South African Mommy Blogger in Johannesburg

Choosing the right Difrax S-bottle

The Difrax S-bottle comes in 4 sizes and 2 designs: Natural (170 ml and 250 ml) and Wide (200 ml and 310 ml). The Natural S-bottle is easy to hold and is quickly adapted by your baby. The Wide S-bottle is easy to fill with formula milk or ice cubes of frozen breast milk.

  • The Difrax S-bottle 170 ml is mostly used during the initial period.
  • Then parents change over to the Difrax S-bottle 250 ml (the most popular size).
  • The Difrax S-bottle 310 ml is the next step and ideal for milk porridge.

Have you ever tried driving the long road between Jozi and Durbs with 3 cats and a toddler? If it’s not the Sandton or Penny doing their pound-kitty howls it is Lexa. We also have to stop a whole lot more, making the trip up to 8 hours long.

Now that is a long time to be strapped into a chair for a kid…

Instead of packing bottles and containers with lots of different snacks and juices I’ve used the Fill n Squeeze bags. It takes up less space and Lexa loves the novelty.

Fill-n-Squeeze-baby-food-sachets

What’s in the sachets…

  • Water
  • Fruit juice
  • Custard with finely chopped fruits
  • Fruit smoothie
  • Baby food

We don’t buy juice boxes as (1) straws and (2) she never drinks the whole box. By pouring juice into the Fill n Squeeze bags we can give her just enough.

They are great for on the road – but even better if…

These little bags are also great if you want to make and freeze baby food at home.

  • 0,5cm spout
  • Marked at 30ml, 60ml, 90ml, 120ml and 150ml
  • Can be re-used
  • Even has a label for date and content description
  • Plus as an added bonus a monkey for each side

Funny enough, I haven’t been able to get a pic with Charlotte holding one as she is convinced I am out to steal her juice/food if it is in these sachets – but I will get her one of these days.
