Who doesn’t love a good movie? I remember watching the first Toy Story as a young adult. I may not have been the target market, but I loved it enough to watch Toy Story 2 and 3.

Finally this year I will get to watch the 4th movie with my kids. I’m looking forward to catching up with the toy gang again.

To celebrate Disney’s Toy Story 4 I have a hamper to give away!

I grew up thinking that the Kruger Park was in our backyard – that’s how many times we went. One of my most vivid memories was seeing lions for the very first time. I remember pressing my nose flat against the window in the stationwagon to get a better view of these better cats. My parents loved going to the Kruger Park and I still do, but I can’t just pop over there… its far!

I was elated to be introduced to the Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve just 2 shakes from our home. Not only do they have lions, but they also have a bunch of other cats and animals to look at.

Once you enter the park adrenaline starts pumping. Just after the gate the very first watering hole with animals, then up and down a hill a gate will be opened that keeps the predators away from the herbivores.

We didn’t get to do the animal interactions as we were at the Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve for an easter egg hunt and the children were kaput! Next time we’ll do that…

When the driving gets too much you can always go to the Thatch Café for a snack or take on the bicycle ramps. You can also go to the Thatch Cafe and bike park without entering the rest of the park – which means it’s a free place to go! You can also rent bicycles here.

Sophie the Sea Lion truly is a magical creature and she is featured on our Tommee Tippee GroTowel and GroRobe.

I don’t know why there isn’t a get it in your size button on the website, because the Tommee Tippee GroRobe is probably the best snuggly gown we’ve come across. Lexa loves it as a pre- and post bath robe.It features soft hypoallergenic Puredry Microfibre that quickly dries to stop your child getting chilly.

The Tommee Tippee GroTowel we gave to little Lily, because “sissy pretty”. It is a neat little baby towel with hoodie and super soft and absorbent.

One of my favourite products from the Gro range has to be the Tommee Tippee GroEgg. This nifty little gadget lights up baby’s room and tells us the temperature. The best part, the light changes with the temperature! Red for warm and yellow for getting too cold. We’ve only seen our house in the 17 to 26 degree Celsius range.

Tommee Tippee GroBag comes with it’s very own baby room thermometer – and can be used with a pram/baby chair with its nifty travel feature.

We didn’t use the GroBag as apparently my kids do not like to be wrapped in anything their feet can’t escape from (this is a family thing). Lily had the absolute worst tantrum when I put her inside the Tommee Tippee GroBag. I still think it is a great product as we used something similar with Lexa as a baby, but Lily just isn’t into it.

I was gifted these 4 items to try, but the opinions expressed are my own.

Layers of fun, collectible dolls to have many hours of imaginative play fun with and a not so happy bank balance for parents.

The fun begins as soon as you rip open the first layer 🙂

I usually get irritated with collectible toys, but somehow L.O.L dolls have escaped this. They are sassy, charming, unique and work well as a bribe to get better marks, tidy up rooms or as a birthday/Christmas present.
The fun starts at the first layer and extends long past the last layer. Once the L.O.L doll has their first friend, the L.O.L bug truly has you. Next step is to add a Lil Sister and a L.O.L Laundry to your collection and to have even more fun.

L.O.L Surprise Under Wraps Doll thusfar is my favourite. You need to uUnbox the spy glass to find the codes and unlock surprises. Not only do you get a whole carry case that can hold multiple LOLs, but it can also be used as a handbag or converted to a little shower for your dolls. The packet includes:

• Spy glass
• Secret message sticker
• Surprise codes
• Bottle
• Mystery disguise
• Shoes
• Fashion Accessory
• Outfit
• L.O.L. Surprise Eye Under Wraps Doll with water surprise

You gotta love the bling! The L.O.L Surprise Doll Bling Series includes dolls dressed with tinsel glitter finishes from head to toe. They are simply the sassiest of the L.O.L family. Feed or bath your doll for an extra surprise.

  • Secret Message Sticker
  • Collectible Stickers
  • Water Bottle
  • Shoes
  • Outfit
  • Fashion Accessory
  • L.O.L Surprise Bling Series Doll
  • Ball becomes a doll stand that you can hang anywhere to display your doll!
  • Collector’s guide

The Lil Sisters come with a gift for their big sisters. They are wrapped in 5 layers, but are just as sassy as their big sisters. Bath your babies for an additional water surprise!

  • Secret message sticker
  • Collectible sticker
  • Spy Glass
  • Small fashion accessory
  • Large fashion accessory
  • L.O.L. Lil Sister doll with Water Surprise
  • Collector’s guide
  • Ball transforms into key chain carrying case and bath playset.

L.O.L Laundry (L.O.L Surprise Fashion Crush) is a 3 layer surprise in a basket filled with slime and a whole new outfit for your L.O.L doll. Digging around to find all the pieces is a great sensory activity with a great reward.

Yes, maybe they are expensive, but we do love these sassy little girls. We now have 4 big sisters and a little sister plus hope to add a new L.O.L to Lexa’s collection for Xmas.

In case you wanted to meet our other 2 L.O.L dolls here they are!

I fell out of love with my Instax Mini 8 and 9. It can’t give me what I need, to print the memories I already have and I can’t move onto capturing new memories just yet.

We were next to my mom’s sickbed for a month, day in, day out from 9 to sometimes after 6. At first we hoped she would get better, get out and give us all hell again. She didn’t get better, she got worse day after day. She shrunk and all we got do was be there until the end.

Those last images of her are etched onto my mind – and those are the only images I want to forget. That is not who she was. That is not her life. That is not her.

She made enough memories to last us a lifetime more – and we have them spread out on albums and in our phones. I’ve started printing them to help me come to terms with the loss of my mom – but also to replace those haunting hospital images in my mind.

memories to last a lifetime

The day I realised what I needed…

I went to the Instax mini LiPlay and Printlife Exhibition launch at Sandton City. I didn’t want to go out just yet, but I’m glad I did because I tried out the FujiFilm SmartPrint app and printed a few photos of my mom and family. The best part of my day was winning an Instax mini LipPlay. This little camera gave me what I wanted, instant print from my camera phone.

Easy LiPlay

I’ll do another post to show you how to create a memory jar with Instax photos – because that’s what I did with these precious photos.

Nou is ek terug vir my ma.

There is something special about living on the African continent. It’s a place where the world passes through enroute to discover themselves. It’s a place where lions can still roar as kings and people still smile.

Africa is where my heart is. It is where I took my first breath and plan to take my last breath. It’s where my language and people were born. It’s a place that inspired great writers and poets with its beauty. It’s a place where you can find and lose yourself. It’s a place where you meet the world.

The celebration of Africa Day

Africa has always been a place everyone wanted a piece of. We may now be all self-governed but we still face challenges such as poverty, unemployment, lack of education and access to healthcare.

My biggest fear right now is that Africa’s doors are welcoming China too much. Yes we need investment, but we should never stop making sure that China doesn’t get more of Africa than we would want to give. We have a continent rich in everything that will be plundered.
