It rained so much in December and Lexa was bored out of her mind most of the time – until I got out the messiest, funnest thing I possibly could.

I didn’t think a small packet of dried “whatever that is” would expand so much in the tub. Instead of just having a little puddle in the bath the slime just kept expanding… and expanding. We chucked Lexa and her youngest cousin (who is 10) in the bath and closed the door…

The squeals of delight and giggles did not prepare us for the aftermath (that we shall never speak of again). There was pink slime everywhere… except the roof.

You can get these fun Zimplikids products on Takealot:

  • Zimplikids Gelli Baff
  • Zimplikids Slime Baff
  • Zimplikids Snowball Battlepack (I still have this one to entertain the toddler with)

Do yourself a favour and play outside… or just know that there will be lots of spillage and fun.

Last year was an amazing year for meeting and learning about South African entrepreneurs and products. At the 2018 Pharmaceutical & Cosmetic Review/Symrise New Product Competition, local perfumer Di Thompson from Dimanzi walked away with the Editor’s Choice Award.

Creating a fragrance is not only a journey of all our senses but also an exploration into the well-spring of our artistic inspirations!

Di Thompson

Who is Di Thompson?

Di Thompson’s journey to perfumer started in Johannesburg where as a young girl she accompanied her mom to work at a beauty factory. She went on from Jeppe Prep and Jeppe High School for Girls in Kensington to Wits University and a Fine Arts Degree.

Her education continued at the prestigious House of Guerlain in Paris where she learnt facial and makeup skills. Di was then offered the KZN Area Manager position with Guerlain. After 2 years she returned to Johannesburg to head up the marketing, sales, training and PR of the company. The next few years saw Di travel the world to promote the Guerlain brand and products in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia as well as the Indian Ocean Zone covering Mauritius and Reunion Island.

After many years in the corporate world Di decided to open her own company LE VISAGE BOUTIQUE SALON in Bedfordview. You can still find her here, as owner, doing what she loves.

Dimanzi, more than a fragrance

Di saw an opportunity to create a fine fragrance produced in South Africa with essential oils coming from Grasse in France. After 2 years of research Di and her team launched DIMANZI EAU DE PARFUM.

Dimanzi embraces the same quality and standards of leading international brands, but at more competitive prices. The fragrance embodies real French Chic aligned with the enchanting African Spirit!

  • The name of the fragrance is derived from her name, Di, and the Zulu word for water, manzi.
  • The zebra bead that adorns each bottle is crafted in Kwazulu-Natal by local woman.
  • Zebra stripes is part of the DNA of the Dimanzi brand – and her *Burchell heritage.

Elizabeth Arden se Red Door Aura is ‘n tydlose, gesofistikeerde en vroulike geur wat in 2012 geloods is. Dit is geskep deur dieselfde parfumeer, Carlos Benaim, as die oorspronklike Elizabeth Arden Red Door.

  • Top note: Lekker Framboos, Italiaanse Bergamot, Freesia
  • Middelnote: Oranje Bloem, Rose, Jasmynblare
  • Basisnote: Romerige Amber, Sandelhout, Sagte Muskus

Die laaste paar weke was ‘n tuimeltrein/mallemeule.

Ek is ‘n dromer omdat ek ‘n realis is.

Onbekend

Watter velsorgprodukte toets ek nou?

Optiphi Intense Retinol Serum

Asseblief, deel my blog met jou vriendinne. Lag saam my, huil saam my en miskien leer jy iets nuuts!

Why, I’d like nothing better than to achieve some bold adventure, worthy of our trip.

I miss travel. It has been 6 months since our last big trip. The struggle in my head and heart is real.

Photos from our first visit to Zanzibar

If you want to see more from my Zanzibar Travels..

Did you know that South Africa’s school holidays is starting sooner than usual? Not great news for me, because now it starts before my birthday, but it means that low season in Zanzibar coincides nicely!

When you have a friend in paradise 🙁

I see all these amazing pictures of what she sees and does on a daily basis and my heart just aches to live on a tropical beach somewhere. I know she works hard, but she gets to live a life that I want.

I want to go back to Zanzibar one day. I know I’ve been there, but it was literally in and out because of a family tragedy.

What I would do if I was in Zanzibar right now…

Obviously I would be in the water, taking photos, drinking cocktails, eating, going on tours – but… there is something else I want to do. It is out of my comfort zone, it is in the air and it scares me.

I have been wanting to do parasailing and fly boarding for some time now – however, I want to do it in paradise! Plus now that I have a friend with the inside scoop as a local, I wasn’t shy to ask who she would recommend…

Zanzibar Parasailing (www.zanzibarparasailing.com), which also offers diving, jet skis and what not, is owned by a South African and they have a great safety record. They are in Kendwa/Nungwi and their prices seem reasonable to me.

I am tired. Kaput. This insanely long holiday with a toddler and new baby was the most draining experience of my life. There is no way you can find a balance between work, not sleeping, babysitting and making sure there are dishes for guests after you’ve cooked meals for them.

The only day we relaxed was a 5 hour day with a Spur breakfast, inhaling a sundae at Milkylane and watching Aquaman. We only watched it in 2D because we only watch 3D on IMAX and we didn’t want to be too far from home. It was good anyway.

I’m no leader. I came because I had no choice. I came to save my home, and the people that I love.

Aquaman

The special effects were amamazing! The movie had a list of special effects artists longer than the road from Jozi to the Cape… so they really made sure they nailed it. The fight scenes dragged on a bit long, but overall it was a good way to spend a Sunday.

In case you want to get some of the DC Aquaman magic for your desk or superhero collection, this is from Funko Pop! (Gammatek).

Aquaman is from DC Comics – so no, he will never cross paths with Tony Stark from Marvel Comics. Let me give you the lowdown on Aquaman… because as uncool as he is depicted in Big Bang Theory, he is probably one of the most powerful superheroes in the DC world.

Raj in Big Bang Theory
  • Arthur Curry is Aquaman. Half human and half Atlantean.
  • Jason Momoa played the character in both Justice League (2017) and Aquaman (2018)
  • Mother: Queen Atlanna of Atlantis; Father: Tom Curry, Lighthouse keeper; Half brother: King Orm of Atlantis
  • Aquaman has had 2 tridents
    • 5-pronged trident (steel/silver) that belonged to his mother – used in Justice League, destroyed in Aquaman movie
    • 3-pronged trident (gold) that belonged to King Atlan – retrieved in Aquaman movie. King Atlan destroyed the foundation of Atlantis… it is also the most powerful trident ever of course.
  • After retrieving King Atlan’s trident he gets a new gold with green suit plus he becomes ruler of the sea.

I am not going to give away more spoilers. Just go watch it on IMAX if you can!
