I have never really been able to grow long nails (and I detest having false/chemical nails) but this December I grew awesomely strong long nails and it is all thanks to a few new products I bought.

Essence nail products

My favourite buy during the silly season was the Essence nail repairing oil with Argan oil – I think the bottle cost R40. It restores the surface of your nails and nourishes cuticles. It really is the only product you have to buy for your nails.

Then, because I know my nails break and chip I opted to get the Essence ultra strong nail hardener. I went to the beach, took care of the kid and did the general housework and had unchipped nails until the day I slammed my finger against the car door. These things happen.

There are some other products on the shelf from Essence that you should look out for:

  1. Essence studio nails fast cuticle remover
  2. Essence nail art express dry drops

The best thing about Essence, it is affordable so trying something out won’t break the bank. I am yet to be disappointed by an Essence product.

It is interesting to read what the fashion magazines predict for this year. I’ve summed it up to save you a bit of time.

According to Marie Claire the 80s will be making a comeback; The romantic look with braids and tea-stained lips and eyes will be big; The smokey eye is out and the smudged eye is in; Big hair is out and sleek side-parted hair is in; Contouring and bronzers are out and lipsticks on cheeks are in.

Glamour predicts Mermaid eyes, belted ponytails, Rapunzel hair, fiery ombre lips, arts & crafts nails, diamond nails, embellished braids, matte eyes/lips/skin, surfergirl blond locks, milk as a beauty treatment, bangs and no makeup.

Hello Magazine has taken some inspiration from Pinterest and predicts no heat hairstyles, chrome powder nails, cut-crease makeup, braided topknots, charcoal masks, ash balayage, Jojoba oil, headscarves, microblading and lip & cheek stains.

Vogue also predicts that the 80s with its bright lips are back; They are also predicting clean skin, braids, smudged eyes, surfer-style beauty, glitter everywhere, slick side partings, unexpected colour, lipstick as a blush and your ears as a focus point.

Here are my predictions for 2017…I will always be lazy to create a look for work – I really just need lipgloss and mascara to get by. If however you spot me out doing anything but work I will look fabulous.

Benefit Cosmetics posie tint

Note on lip and cheek stains – Benefit Cosmetics has my favourite and it is called Posie Tint. I have had this for more than a year so it isn’t really a new thing – but it is amazing. Read the article I wrote about it here.

I don’t do advent calendars. I can’t wait to open all the little windows and then I end up doing it all in one day and regretting that I hadn’t left anything for the rest of the days. This time I waited 8 days before opening the first window.

…and just a pause to look at all the goodies from the first 8 days in the Essence Advent Calendar.

…and then my cat got really, really sick and ended up at the vet on a drip. That meant one thing only for this advent calendar – being ripped open so I can feel a bit better.

DRUMROLL the final day of the Essence Advent Calendar gave to me…

…and finally, all that was in the box!

If you can’t even pronounce the ingredients, how can you put it on your skin?

When Pheebs from Hey Gorgeous took to the stage last weekend at a Durban Blogger Meetup she asked us that question. That made me realise that I actually haven’t really checked what ingredients are in the products that I have been using and that maybe I should re-evaluate what I buy. C’mon I check ingredients for the food I eat – why am I neglecting to do the same for what goes on my skin?

Hey Gorgeous Strawberry Daiquiri

The concept behind Hey Gorgeous is that everything is freshly made, not older than 2 weeks and free from chemicals. Most of their products are also vegan friendly – except for products containing honey.

At the blogger event we each received a Hey Gorgeous Strawberry Daiquiri Body Scrub Bliss and Whipped Mousse. When you open the containers you definitely smell that strawberry daiquiri – so delicious.

Hey Gorgeous Strawberry Daiquiri

Yesterday I finally used the Hey Gorgeous products – because it permanently rains here and I wanted to make sure that I liked it before writing about it… The verdict is out, I definitely love it but it did make me want to go out and have strawberry daiquiris on the beach!

You can find all the info you need about their products and store locations on the website hey-gorgeous.co.za. Just by the way they have a brand new store in La Lucia and you can find all their details on this Facebook page: https://web.facebook.com/HeyGorgeousLaLucia/.

PS. I was not paid to review or write about the product – but I did receive free samples.
