Big world, big adventure – how much have you seen?

It’s a big world out there and I cannot wait to see more of it!

I recently chatted to one of my very best friends from high school and it turns out that she never left home, never went anywhere… because of anxiety.

If I hadn’t left and we kept on partying maybe her life could’ve been different too. Maybe I should’ve insisted she join me in the city. Maybe she wouldn’t have pulled back into her shell and maybe we would’ve moved to the city together and both gone places. Maybe… (Yes, I know we are all responsible for our own futures, but friends help friends…)

I never looked back. I went on to squeeze every last drop from every day. I went places, collected memories and passport stamps, fell in love, got married, traveled more, had kids and kept on going places.

I even plan what my youngest’s first passport stamp would be – just like I planned her sister’s to coincide with her namesake grandmother’s first overseas trip. Yes, I am that awesome.

Wanderlust: n. a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world

My wanderlust I definitely owe to my parents. Before it was cool to go to our neighbouring countries we we’re there in an old baby blue Landrover my parents lovingly restored. We had setting up and packing up a camp down to less than an hour.

Some things I will never forget… There were the 2 nights at Nata Bird Sanctuary and pink flamingoes in the salt pans. Seeing Victoria Falls for the first time and a boat ride on the mighty Zambezi. Elephants crossing the main road in Zim. The night of the hyenas around our tent in Hwange National Park. That time my sister got bumped on the head by a warthog at Mlibizi. That time my dad had to fill up the Landrover in Zim and the pump was “hand driven”… and the Lannie had double tanks. Oh wait… that time we almost ran out of petrol in the middle of nowhere on our way to the Cape and we freed downhill. That same holiday my parents made us visit a bazillion museums!

Jip, my parents were pretty awesome back then too. Give them half a chance now and they will run off somewhere.

I’m glad I got great family holidays as a kid that didn’t involve hotels. I’m glad I got to see beyond Africa on my own and with hubby.

I’m as sentimental as an old lady. Every single piece of jewellery my parents bestowed upon my younger self, I treasure. I have all my silver rings, necklaces and sometimes I still mix them in with my newer pieces.

Chicco’s got you mama {win}

I have an awesome surprise for you in in this post, so keep on reading to the end!

I received this awesome box from Chicco last week and did I strike it lucky with bottles! Check out the Facebook LIVE reveal of what’s in the box here.

Did you know that Chicco has been around for 60 years? They constantly observe children, have dialogues with parents and collaborate with the medical world to censure their products bring only joy in the lives of little ones.

Breast feeding

Look, I am never going to dwell on breast pumps and breastfeeding (you can read here why) but I will mention some of Chicco’s products to help you on your way.

The airtight seal helps to preserve breastmilk – but you can also use it to store milk powder in for those on the go days.

Bottle feeding

Now I can talk about stuff I know… We use a bottle similar in shape but with the teat in the middle (and they work great), but after trying the Chicco Natural Feeling Bottle the other night on little miss Lily at bed time I was impressed. She took to the bottle like it was nobody’s business, she didn’t have any more wind than usual and she looked more comfortable. I’ll still use it a few more times to test of course!

Disclaimer: It is up to you to decide between bottle and breastfeeding. However follow the instructions provided to keep bottles sterilized.

Chicco offers both the inclined and regular teats to fit on the bottles, obviously with different flow rates. More excitingly they have glass bottles as well – which of course makes them recyclable and more hygienic. We have one of the glass bottles to try out, but I am petrified of Lexa using her throw arm…

Personally we don’t use bottle warmers as we keep the filtered water in bottles for the day/night and make more bottles as we see them running out, but Chicco does offer a bottle warmer that will fit their bottles.

I liked the looked of the Chicco sterilizer – especially the microwaveable one for travel. The big electronic one… yeah, it might have been a contender for us.

Dummies and more

Dummies, hate it or love it… sometime the only thing that will get baby to settle is to stick one in the pie-hole, seriously. We got Chicco dummies in some of the hospital bags when Lily was born and we still use them. I prefer a transparent dummy, but when my parents are around it is better to have a bright colour so they can find it (just saying).

Chico has a fantastic selection of dummies, dummy clips, teethers, teether bibs and it is always worth shopping around and looking at what is new in the shelves.
