Lalaboom beads has added numerous basic but essential play values into one simple, yet effective toy – involving manipulation, textures, eye-hand coordination and intellectual challenges.

Some of the primary functions of this unique new toy include: Snap, twist, mix ‘n match, construction and lacing.

SNAP FUNCTION: 6 months and up. This is the primary function of the item, allowing manipulation and sensory exploration of various bead textures, colour recognition, gross motor skills and hand/eye coordination.

TWIST FUNCTION: 12 months and up. Has a screwing system that allows each bead to open and close easily.  Boosts motor skills and general coordination.

LACING FUNCTION: 12 months and up. Thanks to an inner hole, kids can string several beads.  Lalaboom is the first toy that offers a lacing function below 18 months and the best part is there are no small parts.

COMBINATION MIX ‘N MATCH: 24 months and up. All beads are interconnected allowing unlimited combinations.  Children can stack and play with half beads as well.

CONSTRUCTION: 18 months and up. Child can use half or whole bead to stack and divide any part of the construction.

When you get a little older what you did/didn’t do for your skin finally starts to show. However, you can still repair and maintain your skin going forward.

I recently got to test out a product selection suitable for ladies that have reached the 40+ mark (I’m getting a bit personal here). Unfortunately it fell over the last throes of a really bad breakout I had – but turns out that the products actually were exactly what I needed.

I have actually bought the creams and oils from Clicks before as African Rooibos Extracts is really affordable – and you know the Clicks buy 2, get 1 free promotions… I bought some 🙂

I love African Extracts Rooibos because it is affordable, they combine skin care science with proven efficacy of natural plant extracts

This is a long write-up, but it is really worth the read!

Toner – what does it do?

When you do your shopping and you have to stick to a budget, sometimes you skip steps for your skin (because cream is enough) – right?

After you wash your face, you might think your skin is clean… but sometimes there is still leftover makeup, excess oil and whatever else may have been in the air. This is where toner comes in. It is just that extra bit of cleaning and hydrating your skin needs between washing and applying cream.

What makes the African Extracts Rooibos Misting Toner special?

The Advantage Misting Toner has Bio-Active Rooibos extract (*antioxidant that helps to reduce the visible signs of ageing – plus boosts your skins natural defences), aloe vera to soothe and calm, witch hazel to purify and tighten pores, chamomile to fade dark spots and aid cellular regeneration as well as everlasting and daisy flowers to get some radiance going and counter the ageing effects of pollutants.

Use it 3 ways!

  • After cleaning your face and neck get the toner on your skin. You can apply it more than once if your skin needs refreshing.
  • Use it to set your makeup! This is a bonus that I haven’t yet tried… (It is on my list to do, because setting spray is expensive.)
  • Combine with a few drops of your Advantage Repair Facial Oil Spray on a cotton pad to remove your makeup effortlessly.

The features you need to know about:

  • Antioxidant rich
  • Free of parabens
  • Dermatologically tested
  • Suitable for vegans
  • Endorsed by Beauty without Cruelty

Tissue Oil

Don’t roll your eyes at me, every man, woman and child should have good tissue oil within a 20m radius at all times (according to me). I say good because not all tissue oils are created equally – just read the labels.

The African Extracts Rooibos Multi-Purpose Tissue Oil is derived from 100% natural ingredients with no added preservatives, fragrance or colourants. It’s nature in a bottle with regenerative and restorative properties.

So, what is in the African Extracts Rooibos Tissue Oil?

A blend of grapeseed and sweet almond oils with Bio-Active Rooibos extract*, added Vitamin E as well as extracts from rosemary and geranium. The Rooibos extract is from organically grown (in the Cederberg), fresh-cut rooibos and extracted by steam to preserve the highest levels of antioxidants.

Before I go further, let me tell you what has been clinically proven with this product…

It improves the appearance of scars, blemishes, stretchmarks, uneven skin tone, dry and dehydrated skin, fine lines and wrinkles, brittle nails and cuticles, dry and itchy scalp.

It is literally an all-purpose tissue oil! Currently I am using it on my hands, nails, face (acne scars) and décolletage – they say it takes a few weeks to see results, so I’m going to stick it out. You will hear how the results were – I promise.

All the ways in which to use your tissue oil:

The African Extracts Rooibos Multi-Purpose Tissue Oil comes in a 125ml spray bottle (yay!).

  • You can use it under your day or night cream, just give it some time to get absorbed. It’s not as oily as you might think.
  • Spray and massage onto your nails and cuticles.
  • Add a few drops to your bathwater. (My mom used to let us do this when we had sunburns.) It just adds additional food that your skin can absorb to feel extra moisturised.
  • Apply it to your locks! It is a deep treatment for hair and you can leave it in for just 15 minutes before washing. It really works!
  • If you are bald and your scalp is dry… just rub a few drops on. You can also apply it after getting your head shaved.
  • Dry elbows, knees and heels… rub some tissue oil on.
  • This one is a secret my mom taught me as well… add a few drops into your body lotion. Or if you are feeling lavish, just spray it onto your arms and legs.
  • If you are in a diet situation, start applying tissue oil over those fatty bits now. It helps the skin when it wants to do that stretch mark thing.
  • Put it next to the hand was – you feel see the difference when you apply tissue oil after all the water works.
  • And then… we all know what tissue oil does to scars and blemishes – just put it on a few times a day.

The features you need to know about:

  • Rich in antioxidants
  • 100% naturally derived ingredients
  • No mineral oils, preservatives, fragrances or colourants
  • Dermalogically tested
  • Clinically proven results
  • Suitable for vegans
  • Endorsed by Beauty without Cruelty

Eye Cream

Who spends that extra bit on eye creams that promise a bag of chips and a side of dip? I’m putting both my hands up. I have had hits, misses and meh luck with eye creams. The most expensive teeny tiny little tube I once bought cost almost 500 bucks and it was just meh.

Why should we be using eye cream you may ask…

The under-eye area is one of the most delicate and vulnerable areas on your body. It is also the place where fine lines like to “make a nest”.

  • See less of your fine lines
  • Dark circles going a bit lighter
  • Under-eye puffiness minimised
This is my actual skin with no make-up and small dots of African Extracts Advantage Regenerating Eye Cream – ready to be dabbed in. I don’t want to scare you on whats happening below my lip line – I’m treating it with the tissue oil (and I will discuss this in another write-up).

Let me tell you more about the African Extracts Advantage Regenerating Cream

It has antioxidant-rich Bio-Active Rooibos*, sea fennel and buckwheat extracts, skin smoothing allantoin (I had to google this one, but it is diureide of glyoxylic acid) and light deflectors for that bright youthful look.

The biggest plus… it comes in a tube with pump! This keeps your cream free from active ingredients like light and air.

The features you need to know about:

  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Paraben free
  • Dermatologically tested
  • Endorsed by Beauty without Cruelty

Other African Extracts Rooibos testers I have tried:

  • Intensive Day Cream with SPF 15 for Dry/Mature Skin
It really works well under makeup and is a good moisturiser.
  • Gentle Refining Polish for Dry/Mature Skin
Polish is just a fancy word for exfoliate, but it is a really nice one to use!

Verdict…

If you want a pocket-friendly skin range that actually gives results, then African Extracts Rooibos should be on your shopping list. I will be squeezing every last drop from every tube and bottle.

I have also given my mom and sister cream samples and they both loved it. I will never trust those 2 alone near my African Extracts products…

Where can you get your hands on African Extract Rooibos products?

How much does it cost?

Matsimela inspires me to want to be better person. They don’t make a big fuss about all the good they are doing – but they should!

I got home the other day and there was a delivery from Matsimela. Usually I would take my deliveries upstairs, do some work, wash my face and then maybe by 4 open the box, but when it’s Matsimela… rules don’t apply. I grabbed my box, ran up the stairs and unpacked!

If you have 2 seconds… check out their Aloe and Shubaba ranges under Whats New! I want to try these out…

Here is what I know:

  • Matsimela is a kind, compassionate local brand that empowers local women.
  • This season you can own a beautiful crochet bag handmade by a local woman when you spend R600 or more. This applies to all purchases made on www.matsimela.co.za, Matsimela stores and selected spas.
  • Plus a home in Johannesburg who takes care of people with disabilities will be packaging their festive season gifts!
  • I am spoiling my mom this year with even more Matsimela goodies.

The beach bags are available in 4 colours – and they are super nice. Check out mine!

Since it is time that you get your Christmas gifts sorted, let me show you what was in the box…

MatsiMela Vanilla Sandalwood Lip Butter to condition and soften my lips. The butter is enhanced with Shea Butter and blended with Beeswax and rich jojoba oil.

Matsimela Ginger & Lime Palm Soap – This is my third palm soap and I love them so much! Plus if you’ve read my previous article on Matsimela you will know that Ginger and Lime has a few secrets 🙂

Matsimela Baobab Seed Liquid Hand Soap – As you can see, I’m already using it in my ensuite.

Matsimela Baobab Seed Intensive Hand and Nail Repair – This is a gorgeous cream! It smells a bit like sweets and while I’m typing I’m catching it in the air. Really lovely.

Matsimela Baobab Seed Intensive Hand and Nail Repair

If you want to know what home spa dreams are made of… this is it!

Matsimela Red Berry Kalahari Salt Scrub – If you have to leave me somewhere, please make sure you leave me with lots of this!

Matsimela Baobab Seed Kalahari Bath Soak – I can’t get enough of Baobab products… Plus did you know the salt is from a natural salt mine in the Kalahari?

Have you ever had such a bad day that you stuffed your face with anything within reach – and the next day you have a breakout of note? It still happens to me!

The times I have a product to test that will address my skin problems, I am happiest. Previously I have written about BaoCare Radiance and its quick “rejuvenation” of my skin and today I’m talking acne/zits/karbonkels/the eew stuff.

I know the power of baobab oil, but when it is combined with tea tree, calendula and evening primrose you have a host of anti-microbial properties in one concentrated product. BaoCare Acne contains high levels of linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid used in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins which in turn sends chemical signals that summon white blood cells (Source: Wikipedia) that helps to balance sebum (icky stuff) production. I sound pretty smart now, right?

BaoCare Acne has a pleasant, soft fragrance and is gentle on the skin. For best results I would recommend applying it twice daily after cleansing. Because it contains tea tree oil, avoid sensitive skin around the eyes.

Is it worth the buy?

Yes! I would never hesitate in recommending BaoCare products. They even have it in a small 10ml size if you would like to first try a little before spending the big bucks.

My breakout (which can turn really ugly) subsided within 24 hours. I’m still treating it with BaoCare Acne to have no return breakouts.

This part of the review talks about the creams, (s00n the acne treatment) and face mask. You can read part 1 of the Oolala Collection review here.

Oolala Collection Day Moisturiser with SPF15

The most important things I look for in my day cream is that it should have an SPF, get absorbed into my skin and be a good companion for my make-up.

The Oolala Collection day cream has a nice consistency that doesn’t linger on your skin after application. After about 20 minutes I saw an improvement of fine lines around my eyes.

The day cream is suitable for all skin types and is unisex.

Oolala Collection Hyaluronic Serum Moisture Boost Day

I loved this serum! It is packed with oils such as grape seed, sweet almond, jojoba and tea tree and yet it feels so light on my skin. It makes a huge difference to how my skin looks and feels.

I applied the Hyaluronic serum and gave it 5 to 10 minutes and then applied the day cream over it. You can use it as a standalone product from any other Oolala products as it is still effective under any other day cream.

Just a note on the oils… if you look at what each of the oils do on their own you have an antioxidant from the grape seed oil that will fight free radicals (that causes premature aging) and jojoba which is a moisturiser. Check out the ingredients in Oolala’s products – because that is what sets it apart from other skincare products.

Oolala Collection Colloidal Silt Ultra Mud Mask

This is going to be the shortest ingredient list you’ve ever seen… water and silt. That’s it. However there are trace minerals including colloidal silver, calcium, magnesium, iodine and boron in the silt. I think the colour of the mask is mostly derived from the iodine… and no, it doesn’t stain your face.

I didn’t check out the ingredient list before applying on my face – and it turns out that I have an allergic reaction to iodine. It is still a great product, it’s just sensitive skin problems 🙁

I used the hyaluronic serum to get the inflammation under control.

My neighbour tried it out, she loved the Silt Mud Mask and had no negative reaction to it.

…and I’m still waiting for the review from a new contributor to my blog, but will update as soon as I have it 🙂 She and her dad is reviewing a product each for me.

You and your squad could be cruising down the coast, meandering through the mountains or wandering through the wild on an epic South African road trip worth R80 000, as part of MotorHappy’s Ultimate Journey campaign.

The campaign, now in its second year, is calling on South Africans to map out their favourite local destinations onto the Ultimate Journey website at www.ultimatejourney.co.za.

When you do, you’ll be entered into the draw to win the R80 000 road trip in a Kia Sportage SUV on loan for the special journey. Those who vote for their favourite spot will also stand a chance to win the prize.

“We encourage South Africans to support travel and foster a further love of their country by adding their favourite destinations and photos to guide and inspire others, and heading to the site to discover new places they might not have known about,” says Barend Smit, Marketing Manager of MotorHappy. “We know how much word-of-mouth recommendations influence another person’s travel itinerary, and so we’re calling on everyone to submit their favourite spots so that others can journey and have fun in their footsteps.”

From all the submissions and votes, which close on 30 September 2018, MotorHappy will then create the ultimate and most loved road trip routes, which you can bookmark for travel now, or further down the line.

During last year’s Ultimate Journey campaign, 2 000 locations were submitted, 3 500 photos added, and more than 37 000 votes received, says Smit. “While we already have a wide range of beautiful and must-visit places in South Africa on the site, there’s still an abundance of spots and hidden gems in the nine provinces that we’re looking forward to seeing added – and voted on – in this year’s campaign.”

To enter the competition and contribute to the creation of South Africa’s Ultimate Journey, upload an image and description of your favourite South African destination to the Ultimate Journey website (www.ultimatejourney.co.za). Share your entry on social media using the #UltimateJourneySA hashtag and encourage your friends and family to vote for your entry.

I was a huge fan of the X-files! Back in the day we had to be in front of the TV when an episode aired – unless you could set the video player to record at the right time.

Strong, beautiful Agent Dana Scully who was the voice of reason for Agent Fox Mulder who regularly threw caution to the wind. It was simply the best show on TV.

Now, 25 years later, the duo has been honoured with their very own Barbie® The X-Files™ Agent Fox Mulder Doll and Barbie® The X-Files™ Agent Dana Scully Doll.

You can read the original article on the Barbie website, click here. It shows the whole creation process!

The dress that started it all… I love this dress! I love the cut, the print…

Quick, give me this baby doll shirt in the front!

An outfit that is absolutely beautiful from pink and white to yellow!

This shift dress gives me the feels 🙂

You can call me old fashioned, but I love this!

Yes to everything!

Girl, those earrings!

If you missed out on Barbie Fashion I loved in July
