Prima Toys

You know that toy that the kids think is great… and you hate it? Well, that’s Foam Alive…

The kids love the feel of the flowy, fluffy stuff. They also thought it would be funny to throw it around the house like confetti. It is fairly easy to clean up… except if it lands in your very long hair! Granted, my kids are a bit younger and it is recommended for kids 5 and up… but under supervision, I think it’s safe to say they can play with it again.

Foam Alive almost feels like water dripping from your fingers – except it’s not liquid. You can press it together but once you put it down it melts like ice cream. It’s a great sensory toy for kids.

There is one very important thing about Foam Alive you will want to know… It never dries out!

As mentioned, Foam Alive is aimed at children aged 5 and up.  It is great for those who love arts and crafts – which all kids do! The range can be purchased from selected Spar stores, Toy Kingdom, Toy Zone, a small range on Takealot and Westpak as well as online from The Kid Zone.

It is quite affordable with the recommended selling price for a single pack at just over R100 and the 2 pack at R270.

I have some great news… YOU CAN WIN a FOAM ALIVE hamper valued at R500! The competition is happening on Instagram, so follow me and Prima Toys.

You can start jumping for joy and enter the competition at the bottom of this post to win a 1 x LOL Surprise Fluffy Pet. I am going to close the competition on the 31st of December with delivery only when offices open in January.

I am a big kid and love toys (probably) more than my kids. I have a bunch of LOL Surprise Dolls on my desk because they are just so much fun to look at. Sometimes I even let my oldest kid play with them.

What I love most about these little dolls is the surprise factor, the anticipation while unwrapping each layer and then finally getting to the delicious character in the middle. The tiny little body with a cute little head and lots of personality just begs to be played with – and then you want more…

You can also choose to stick to one range, jump to glitter, Lil Sisters, pets or even boys. You can build a collection, swop doubles with other enthusiasts and enjoy each amazing little character with their accessories.

  • I don’t want to give too much away, but they are sparkly and the balls are not just round anymore!
  • Yes, they are a bit pricey – but if you keep an eye out for special offers you can get really lucky.
  • You can swop outfits and accessories and pack away each in their own little ball – or build a pod village.
  • The fun is as endless as time you may have.

LOL Surprise Fluffy Pet: The animal we got is a…

I let Lexa unbox the animal. Once she got past 2 layers of wrapping the crystal ball had glitter you could empty out. Once we got the animal this is where it got freaky. Lexa had to peel of the fur…

It was all fluffy and padded with a fabric face. Lexa first pulled off a pink ear then the rest of the fur. Underneath was a completely different animal! You will have to watch the video to get the answer to what it is.

Layers of fun, collectible dolls to have many hours of imaginative play fun with and a not so happy bank balance for parents.

The fun begins as soon as you rip open the first layer 🙂

I usually get irritated with collectible toys, but somehow L.O.L dolls have escaped this. They are sassy, charming, unique and work well as a bribe to get better marks, tidy up rooms or as a birthday/Christmas present.
The fun starts at the first layer and extends long past the last layer. Once the L.O.L doll has their first friend, the L.O.L bug truly has you. Next step is to add a Lil Sister and a L.O.L Laundry to your collection and to have even more fun.

L.O.L Surprise Under Wraps Doll thusfar is my favourite. You need to uUnbox the spy glass to find the codes and unlock surprises. Not only do you get a whole carry case that can hold multiple LOLs, but it can also be used as a handbag or converted to a little shower for your dolls. The packet includes:

• Spy glass
• Secret message sticker
• Surprise codes
• Bottle
• Mystery disguise
• Shoes
• Fashion Accessory
• Outfit
• L.O.L. Surprise Eye Under Wraps Doll with water surprise

You gotta love the bling! The L.O.L Surprise Doll Bling Series includes dolls dressed with tinsel glitter finishes from head to toe. They are simply the sassiest of the L.O.L family. Feed or bath your doll for an extra surprise.

  • Secret Message Sticker
  • Collectible Stickers
  • Water Bottle
  • Shoes
  • Outfit
  • Fashion Accessory
  • L.O.L Surprise Bling Series Doll
  • Ball becomes a doll stand that you can hang anywhere to display your doll!
  • Collector’s guide

The Lil Sisters come with a gift for their big sisters. They are wrapped in 5 layers, but are just as sassy as their big sisters. Bath your babies for an additional water surprise!

  • Secret message sticker
  • Collectible sticker
  • Spy Glass
  • Small fashion accessory
  • Large fashion accessory
  • L.O.L. Lil Sister doll with Water Surprise
  • Collector’s guide
  • Ball transforms into key chain carrying case and bath playset.

L.O.L Laundry (L.O.L Surprise Fashion Crush) is a 3 layer surprise in a basket filled with slime and a whole new outfit for your L.O.L doll. Digging around to find all the pieces is a great sensory activity with a great reward.

Yes, maybe they are expensive, but we do love these sassy little girls. We now have 4 big sisters and a little sister plus hope to add a new L.O.L to Lexa’s collection for Xmas.

In case you wanted to meet our other 2 L.O.L dolls here they are!

When a toy is so happy that it can even brighten up your day – then it must be the happiest toy in the world!

We have tried and tested these toys as part of a campaign, but the opinion expressed is unbiased… When you watch the videos you will know just how much fun these toys are.

Little Tikes Squishy Octopus Piano

The Little Tikes Squishy Octopus Piano is literally the best musical toy we have ever seen and owned. If this Octopus was available when I bought baby toys, it most probably would’ve made the cut and this is why…

When you see it, it will make you smile 🙂
  • 2 music settings of which one plays a melody for each key vs standard single notes
  • A soft tongue button that releases the happiest sounds we’ve ever heard (check out the video)
  • It is durable, our toddler stands on it all the time
  • It has sound, lights and texture with the additional sensory beads on the keys
  • It is compact enough to fit in my handbag or in baby’s bag to take everywhere
  • Very importantly it has no sharp edges

All the humans in the house wants to play with the Octopus Piano, because it just makes you happy. We have taken it on a road trip and I haven’t gotten tired of listening to it either.

Little Tikes Ocean Explorer – Ball Chase Octopus

I know this toy has the words “ball chase” but unfortunately in my house it’s more like “who can hit mommy with the balls”. This is the most fun for my toddler, unfortunately baby just tries to eat the balls – she even crawls to get her little hands on them.

We seem to have misplaced some of the balls around the house between the kids, the cats and the nanny, but that’s not a problem. I bought 6 table tennis balls and they fit too.

Did you know that Little Tikes has brought smiles for 50 years already?

Known for its colourful, resilient, fun and educational toys, Little Tikes continues to bring exciting new products to an already well-established and much-loved range.

For 50 years Little Tikes has brought smiles and happiness to children all over the world. The toys incorporate fun, education, gross and fine motor skills development, ingenuity and of course fun. The products are made especially for little hands and are built to last. Kids can throw them, bite them and really get stuck in with hands-on play. The toys are a firm favourite amongst kids in South Africa and no doubt will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Chiquita Patrizi of Prima Toys

Little Tikes encourages play – obviously!

A 2018 policy report from the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests parents should pencil in big blocks of time devoted to nothing but free play.  One reason for the suggestion is that a high percentage of children in the U.S. no longer have break during their day at pre-school because of increased academic pressure. While this is fortunately not the case in South African pre-schools, time for free play is diminishing and parents should take heed before it becomes a “playtime crisis”.

As a response to this, Little Tikes and Prima Toys aim to celebrate the important relationship between parent and child and encourages parents and kids to be active and playful through discovery… together!  The Little Tikes product range is designed for all sorts of play patterns and lays the foundation not only for the healthy development of a child, but for the future of play.

Below are some of the best-selling toys from Little Tikes:

Little Tikes Push n Play Turtle

The Little Tikes Push n Play Turtle is a walker and activity centre in one.  Ideal for ages 9 months plus, the sturdy handle allows toddlers to hold on and walk with confidence. To prevent walker from going too fast, the wheels have a locking mechanism. The toy also features a shape sorting activity that helps develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The ball popper allows children to hear and see the shapes pop while the walker is in motion. Clicking toys on the handle make walking fun! RSP: R699.99

Little Tikes Sing n Roll Ducky

The Sing n Roll Ducky is a pull along toy that also features sounds and songs. The toy helps to develop fine motor skills and audio recognition. Ideal for ages 12+ months. RSP: R299.99

Little Tikes Handle Haulers – Truck

This friendly-faced Handle Haulers Truck encourages children to get down on the floor and play. The easy to grip, handheld car is easy to push. Little Tikes Handle Haulers are great toys for kids as they encourage energetic floor play and hours of pretend fun. Ideal for ages 12 months plus. RSP: R299.99

Little Tikes Discover Sounds Hammer

This fun, interactive toy hammer is an ideal toy for babies. The easy to grasp shape makes it simple for children to grab and shake. I am a HUGE superhero fan. If you had to ask me what movies I watched this year 80% of them were Superhero related. It helps that my hubby also shares this interest! If you want to win a DC Superhero prize, get to this post to enter J

When Prima Toys said hey, we are bringing in more DC Superhero stuff would you like to see it? There was pretty much nothing I would not have dropped to get a peek, after all my favourite Superhero of all time is from the DC Universe. She is a founding member of the Justice League and she first appeared back in 1941. She is Princess Diana of Themyscira, Daughter of Hippolyta, Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman.

I love DC Superheroes’ storylines and now I can start Lexa on her path to becoming a fan too with an amazing range of toys. Everything in the range encourages imaginative play and it’s all about the superhero universe filled with super powers, fun and hours of play

There are stretch figurines, ooshies, mash ems and an assortment of dress up costumes for fun role play this festive season!

Mini Toddler dolls for Girls

Lexa loves mini figurines! She was lucky enough to get a Harley Quinn… who apparently is friends with Lexa’s cat figures.

These miniature DC Super Hero figurines stand 7,5cm tall. They are super cute and great for any fan to unleash their inner Hero! There are 6 DC Super Hero girls’ collectible figures in the collection, including Bumble Bee, Cat Woman, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn and Super Girl.

Dress Up

Don’t tell anyone, but Lexa already has more Superhero clothes than most of her friends… but you can never have too much of a good thing! She can now save the day as Supergirl in her party time costume! These affordable costumes are available for ages 3 to 6 years.

You might be wondering why Lexa isn’t modelling the shirt… When she knows I want to take a photo of her in something new she runs. All I get is a moving blur.

If however you want to take it a step further and let your kid be the Superhero, the DC Classic Costumes are just the thing. Head to toe your little hero can become their superhero.

Let’s talk puzzles

This is a real treat! Sitting at the table building a DC Superhero puzzle with Lexa. I know she is a little small for this, but she tries.

I love puzzles for kids as it helps with developing basic skills and it’s a whole lot of fun getting to spend time with Lexa.

The Justice League which consists of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash is an amazing team of superheroes that will save the world from an assault of catastrophic proportions. These superheroes all have very distinct colours – which makes the 100 piece puzzle a little easier to build.

The DC Superhero Girls puzzle is absolutely a treat! (Strong girls that can do amazing things.) The superhero girls are in high school and have to deal with all the awkwardness of growing up. This is a great gift if you have girls that love superheroes.

My nieces got wind of this Justice League pencil case in my possession and I’m sure they will be asking if one of them can have it… I think I should keep it for me!

I don’t know what is cool for the kids these days but if I was a kid I would’ve wanted it – because who doesn’t want the Justice League in your suitcase?

Then you can also look forward to a whole bunch of other DC goodies – and I want them all!

Mini Stretch Justice League figurines

I have a stretch Superman and when I want to relax a little, he stretches in all directions.

The Mini Stretch Justice League Figures are just some of the fantastic toys available in the Stretch range.  Each toy can stretch up to 5 times its original size, it then slowly shapes back, ready to be pulled and twisted all over again.

Justice League Ooshies

I like to call them pencil squishies because they are soft pencil toppers – and there are 40 of them to collect! These are great as advent calendar gifts or back to school bribes at RSP of R49.99.

Justice League Mash’ems

Squish them and squash them for hours of Mash’ems  fun. These collectible characters are ideal for ages three years and up.

When it comes to buying gifts for boys I have been largely left alone… I have nieces. Just to reiterate, all boys toys are suitable for girls too… because if you had ever seen how many cars I had as a kid, you would know…

Ben 10

Still top of the list is Ben 10, a superhero with special powers that he discovered from a young age when his signature Omnitrix device miraculously attached itself to his wrist.

New to the range is Ben 10 Action Projection Omnitrix, the Omni Launcher which includes 2 figurines, the deluxe Transforming figure and the Alien Creation Chamber.

Ben 10 Alien Creation Chamber - South African Mommy Blogger

Big Hero 6

Fans of the animated superhero series can collect and display their favourite characters from Big Hero 6. Toys in the range include Micro Chibi figures, action figures, feature figures, Armoured Up Baymax and Blast Flying Baymax.

Treasure X

Boys who love to hunt for treasure will just love Treasure X, a new toy that engages the senses as children scratch, dig and unearth the lost bounty.

Hidden somewhere inside the Treasure X brick is a collectible skeleton figure and a treasure chest which contains a gold treasure. These children can hunt for using the plastic X-cavator to chisel away at the soft rock of the brick. Even after excavation, the discovery isn’t over as the pieces of the figure need to be snapped together to reveal its themed character.

Treasure X - South African Mommy Blogger

With 24 figures to collect and the potential for gold in each box, boys will keep wanting to dig for Treasure X.

StretchMini & Stretch Justice League Figures

Remember Stretch Armstrong? The new figures in the “Stretch range” can stretch up to 5 times its original size and will then slowly shape back, ready to be pulled and twisted all over again.

Look out for Mini Stretch X-Ray and Mini Stretch VacMan, Stretch Batman and introducing Disney Pixar Mini Stretch Mrs Incredibles.

Trixx360º is much more than a car that turns 360! Everything is usable in Trixx360! Use the packaging box to build your own circuit! Make as many combinations as you can imagine! All the accessories of the cars are interchangeable, including the wheels and the bodies! Collect the 8 cars with their ramps and make multiple combinations.

Hands up, who still loves to get in there and play with toys? Me-me-me (I’m jumping up and down)! I love toys and even have them on my desk. I don’t even know how little girls nowadays choose from all that is available…

So this year Prima Toys is just going beyond my wildest dreams with toys for girls. They have everything and a bag of Santa’s toys that will suit every budget and make your kids super excited for Christmas day.

SCRUFF-A-LUVSScruff-a-luvs are adorable fur ball, rescued pets. The pets come in pink or blue and untangle in water to reveal your puppy. Find us Scruffy, Make us Fluffy! When buying your Scruff-a-Luv, they arrive as a sad ball of matted pink fur, but once you bathe them, dry them, brush them and love them, you will discover your puppy! Available mid September.

I’m just going to say this, there is nothing that can tug on my heartstrings like a rescue pet. I have 3 rescues and they are the most loving companions. The Scruff-a-luvs are just the most gorgeous toys that will teach kids about adopting and taking care of what may look like an ugly pet.

I can’t even start to describe how much my niece bugs me about my Shopkins… she collects them! The only ones I couldn’t bear to part with was my Little Cutie Cars… they are just the most adorable things on wheels – and I would never give them up.

Shopkins are great little gifts at an affordable pricepoint. From the small collectible Shopkins, to the world of Shoppies and now Shoppets, the Shopkins universe features different themes for every season, sparks the imagination and provides endless hours of enjoyment. Shopkins fans can continue to grow their collections with more characters and additional playsets that all connect to each other to build a complete Shopkins world.

This season sees the launch of Shopkins’ Season Nine – Wild Style, which introduces the Shoppets. They are adorable little pets for the Shoppies dolls and are larger than a Shopkin, but smaller than a Shoppie.

These furry Shoppets come in different designs, such as Pupkin Cake the puppy, Ambear the bear and Kitty Crumbles the kitten who accompany the Season 9 Shopkins on wild adventures around their hometown of Pawville. Join in the adventure as Shopkins and Shoppies discover the Shoppets world of Pawville, where life isn’t just awesome, but “pawsome”.

This latest range also features an array of new Shopkins. There are over 11 Shopkins Wild Style tribes to collect and they feature different finishes including colour change, glitter and jeweled. There is also the ultra-rare Shimmery Unicorn Shopkins tribe.

Something top secret is happening in Shopville. Shopkins Lil Secrets is another range to look out for and will be available in stores in October. Hint: they are little playsets that Shoppies can play with.

Fans of Shopkins Happy Places will be pleased to discover that the house and furniture-themed range will be added to, with new rainbow themed toys and playsets. Read all my articles on what is coming this Christmas from Prima Toys:

I actually love buying presents. By the time it’s July I have 70% of all presents bought. My husband hates that I buy so far in advance “because I am cluttering our home with my insane hobby”. You know what, it doesn’t matter because when I give a present to someone I know that I have made an effort to find the perfect gift for each and every person.

If you don’t know by now, Mickey is turning 90 on 18 November this year! This means there will be a Mickey everywhere from about October to end December – and I am so excited.

I haven’t given Lexa my Mickey and Minnie Mouse pair as I want to give her a big plush Mickey that she can squeeze and love. Plus she already has her own Mickey charm from Pandora… and I have the Mickey and Minnie locket from Pandora. I admit it, I go overboard sometimes 🙂

So what can you expect from Disney this Christmas?

  • Plush
  • Games & Puzzles
  • Metals
  • Outdoor play

The good news is you will be able to choose from different sized plush dolls… so there will be something to suit your pocket 🙂

Lexa is already displaying the signs of the terrible-two’s even if her second birthday is only in October. Some days it feels like I just want to hide in my bedroom/in a cupboard/somewhere and not have to play and keep her busy… especially on weekends!

…but to get back to what should be on your shopping list for toddlers this Christmas!

Prima Toys’ theme for 2018 is Let them explore. It’s about letting children enjoy and explore their world through play. It’s about giving them the opportunity to discover new things, new play patterns, new technology and more.

I think LeapFrog is one of my personal favourites to buy for Lexa. It is fun, interactive and will prepare her for a lifetime of learning. Lexa loves her Chat & Count, she uses it as a cellphone and it keeps her busy to/from our drive to her school.

The Leapfrog Scoop & Learn Ice Cream Cart was a big hit at the event. When you choose a scoop of ice cream it verbalises what you are doing ‘1 scoop of yellow ice cream’… it even counts the pumps of topping and tells you if you add red cherries.

Little Tikes

Little Tikes is also one of those brands that stand out when it comes to developing children’s minds and imagination. The toys encourage discovery and learning through active, creative and social play and provide hours of fun.

Plus Little Tikes toys have been designed especially for little hands and are tough enough to endure being chewed, hit and thrown about – just ask my forehead and Lexa’s throwing arm!

Little Tikes Toys for Toddlers

Below are some of the latest toys from Little Tikes:

  • Little Tikes Singing Sorter
  • Little Tikes Squishy Piano
  • Little Tikes Touch n Go Flyers
  • Little Tikes Slammin Racers
  • Little Tikes Dirt Digger Plough & wrecking Ball

Peppa Pig

I’m not fond of pigs, but this cutie pink pig who lives with her little brother George, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig is such a fun character for kids. So it is no surprise that the new Peppa Pig range of toys are set to become an essential part of the toy box!

The latest Peppa Pig range has an array of fun playsets and characters for pre-schoolers to play with. From the Ice Cream Van and Peppa Jet to plush toys.

V Tech

I played with the little car set at the Prima Toys event and it was so much fun!

VTech creates age appropriate and developmental stage-based electronic learning products for children of various ages. VTech consults a panel of experts, specialised in reading, language arts, science, math and child development, during the process of creating new products to ensure that they are beneficial to children.

One of the key toy lines from VTech this year is the Toot-Toot Drivers range. The playsets provide miles of learning fun. Each playset comes with different track shapes so that toddlers can use their creativity and reconfigure the set or connect to other Toot-Toot Drivers playsets.  A wonderful feature of the toys is that each playset is equipped with SmartPoint technology. SmartPoint locations recognise and respond to SmartPoint vehicles with sound effects. This added element keeps little ones engaged by boosting imaginative play and teaches cause and effect.

Some of the new products for toddlers that parents can look forward to from VTech are:

  • Secret Safe Mini Diary
  • Sing Along microphone
  • Toot Drivers – below are sets designed for Toot drivers vehicles
  • Deluxe Track Set
  • Airport
  • Fire Station
  • Garage
  • Light & Flight Discovery Globe
  • Kidi Superstar Move

My personal favourite from this range… the VTech Light & Glight Discovery Globe! I love to travel and made sure that Lexa had her first international passport stamp before she was 2.VTEC Globe

Look out for my next article on toys for girls and boys from Prima Toys.

Last week Lexa, Sandton and I had so much fun “unboxing”. It was maybe more like her taking the games in and out of the box and Sandton trying to grab it – but it was so cute.

Check out the end of the post for a competition 🙂

Lexa is turning 2 this year, but she is quite advanced and we are continuously trying to challenge her by introducing new toys and activities. So when I got my hands on the Peppa Pig Dominoes it seemed like the perfect way to teach her about matching up pictures and waiting for her turn.

It has become quite clear that it is always colder on the weekend and then we don’t want to take Lexa out and board games are perfect for staying home and having fun. I checked out the list of new games that forms part of the Prima Toys Games Festival – they look awesome.

My favourites include anything that says Disney, Minnie, lion/cat, L.O.L and Rummikub as well as Rubik’s Cube. (My gran used to love playing Rummikub and she made all of us play with her. So every time I take out my set it reminds me of those wonderful times with her.)

Let’s start with the toys I received from Prima Toys:

Peppa Pig Dominoes

Who doesn’t love dominoes? Outwitting your opponent and getting all your tiles down… it’s such a thrill. Plus the cute little Peppa Pig faces that stare back at you, it is just such a great game for kids.

Peppa Pig Dominoes with Prima Toys

Dominoes is a popular game and now you can play with your favourite pre-school character – Peppa Pig. The game contains brightly coloured picture dominoes for the little ones to enjoy, which will also help to develop memory skills. For ages 3 and over, for 2 to 4 players. RSP: R139.99

Disney Junior Surprise Slides

This is a version of Snakes & Ladders but instead of a dice you spin the wheel and whichever colour you land is where your play piece moves to. Plus you can change the slides so it is shorter or longer.

Disney Junior Surprise Slides

I really love this game because Lexa can’t count or read yet, but we can now teach her colours!

Race along the twisty trail with your Disney Junior friends! Zip along a colorful path featuring familiar faces from your favorite Disney Junior shows! Visit the imaginative worlds of Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First, Mickey’s Clubhouse and Jake and the Never Land Pirates! Shortcut slides zoom you ahead, or push you backward! You’ll never know when the tiles in the game board will mix and flip. It’s a different game each time you play! RSP: R229.99

Minnie Play & Learn Educational Game

Puzzels with Prima Toys

I love puzzles and Miss Little Hands really tries to get the pieces to fit. She is quite good at understanding that certain things go together – and unlike me she attempts to pack away stuff neatly.

This puzzle activity pack is ideal for ages 3 and older. Each puzzle features Minnie and Daisy on fun adventures. Little girls who are Disney fans will love this set! Ideal for ages 3 plus. RSP: R69.99 available at toy stores and retailers.
